POSTCARDS TO VOTERS

People love to do postcarding and research has proven that it works. 

For anyone happy to host your own postcarding gathering, read below  for a few tips and directions. For others who want to postcard on their own click here. 

Anyone who wants to join an existing postcarding group, please email us with your town and we can find a group to connect you with. 

Plan a postcard gathering:

To get started, take a look at these links for campaigns that seem very easy to execute. They send the postcards and the lists, you just have to provide the postage. My experience is that folks who come do postcarding are quite happy to provide the postage and mail the cards. 

This group sends you postcards and guidelines and addresses FREE and only asks that you pay for postage. Two different specific campaigns with options for different states and races. Program 1 also offers lists for our very own CO-3, Romero’s race. You can ask for multiple lists/ races with quantities using the notes section of the form.

Some ideas for doing postcarding:

  • You can do this in your home or find some public place where you can convene (library or cafe / restaurant) a few people or work with a friend who has space at home or their office. 

  • I’ve often had a postcard and desserts gathering and I’ve baked brownies and served fruit as a refreshment - in the evening. 

  • I have friends that have used their patio or deck and done “Postcards in the Garden”. 

  • Or you can host a postcards and tea/ coffee for afternoon or morning gatherings. 

  • Consider doing this a few times and switch around the times if that works to get more people in your network. Do it once or many times, whatever works. And see if anyone who joins you, might want to do one themselves with their friends. You can share these ideas or have them contact me, Lori @ 914-924-2225 or lori@rlbandon.com. 

Here are the steps:

  1. Pick a date/ time a few weeks away, but preferably before end of Sept. as many of the postcard campaigns have a mail date before Sept 30. There will be others who have mail dates in October too that will come online. But now is the time to get started. Early voting starts in October in most places. 

  2. Invite people you know, who you think would be interested. Ask them to RSVP right away (helps to plan for ordering postcards)

  3. Order the number of postcards you think you can manage based on the number of gatherings you think you will do and the number of people who may attend.

  4. Gather some pens and markers in different colors – it helps to get the postcard noticed and read. 

  5. Remind people about the event and suggest they buy some postcard stamps. Assume people can do 30 postcards in one hour. And they can take some home afterwards, if they have more stamps or willing to do more and buy more stamps. Lots of folks like to do this from home. (But it is more fun to do as a group).

  6. Remember to tell your writers that they should always sign with only their first name and “volunteer”. 

  7. The postcards will come with specific instructions and recommended messages that have been research tested and effective. 

  8. Be sure to let your writers know the deadline to mail (sometimes they are very specific)

Postcard stamps can be ordered online (if they are out at the post office).

EXTRA CREDIT:

We can get lists for Dwayne Romero’s campaign too, who is running for CD3 which is now a realistically flippable seat. The Program 1 campaign above does list CO-3 as an option for a list.
